Communications Officer
The Communications Officer participates as a team member in all aspects of the Community Foundation's work. Working closely with the President and in collaboration with staff colleagues, the Communications Officer is responsible for the management and execution of communications and marketing activities for asset development and promotional strategies, program development and implementation, community initiatives and special events.


Primary Duties:

1.        To develop, revise and implement the strategic communications plan.

2.        To produce external communications including annual reports, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, grant guidelines, donor handbooks, special reports, speeches, grantee and donor stories, and news releases.
3.        To produce and maintain the Community Foundation website and social media.
4.        To work with development, grant making, scholarship and community initiatives to coordinate and implement communications to assure a consistent voice in all materials.
5.        To cultivate relationships with the media, plan news conferences and direct communications activities, with the President as the chief spokesperson.
6.        To develop and produce grant proposals and other communications with prospective donors.
7.        To work with grantees, scholarship recipients and Community Foundation donors to develop stories about community impact.
8.        To maintain a knowledge base of current trends, community resources and programs consistent with the Community Foundation and philanthropy.
9.        To contribute to the preparation of the budget for communications.
10.       To identify opportunities to increase the Community Foundation’s visibility in the community.
11.       To staff affiliate fund advisory boards.
12.       To complete other tasks as assigned by the President.


Desired Experience, Skills, Education and Talents

 1.        At least five years results-oriented experience in managing communications for an organization or agency

 2.        Knowledge of regional community needs and the nonprofit sector

 3.        Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, business, english or a similar field; Master's degree helpful, but not required

 4.        Understanding of, appreciation for and experience with charitable giving

 5.        Excellent interpersonal, presentation, listening and communication skills, both written and oral

 6.        Excellent analytical, organizational, relationship-building and creative problem solving skills, team player, self-motivated

 7.        Excellent technology skills

 8.        Confident and courteous manner in frequent contacts with leaders of business and professional community

 9.        High level of personal and professional integrity and ethics

 

The Communications Officer reports directly to and works with the President and staff of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.


Hours:   40 hours per week   8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
