Grant Guidelines

Each year, the Hermantown Area Fund makes grants ranging from $250 to $1,000 for non-profits in the Hermantown region. The deadline to apply is March 1.

Unrestricted Funds are generally granted for initiatives that meet the changing needs of  the Hermantown region in the following five areas:
  • Arts   
  • Civic Projects
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Human Services

Grant priorities within these areas include:
  • newly developed collaborative or organizational efforts that address budget or service deficiencies resulting from funding shortages;
  • address underlying causes of community problems or are preventive in nature;
  • are new and require start-up funds; 
  • respond to well-documented community needs and/or require a moderate amount of grant money but produce significant results in the service area

Items that are generally not funded include:
  • Capital and equipment requests, and
  • Ongoing program support

Items that will not be considered by the Hermantown Fund Advisory Board include:
endowments; religious organizations for religious activities; medical research; debt retirement; requests from re-granting organizations for funding to be used for their own grant making activities; individuals; political organizations or campaigns; tickets for benefits; telephone solicitations; fund-raising drives or activities; and organizations with a substantial part of their purpose the influencing of legislation.
