Eveleth Area Community Foundation Awards $3,000 in Grants

The Eveleth Area Community Foundation Fund, an affiliate fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, has granted $3,000 to nonprofit organizations serving the Eveleth-Gilbert community for 2011. Established in 2008 the Eveleth Area Community Foundation has raised over $200,000 from area civic and businesses leaders.

“We are all very excited about awarding these grants,” states Jon Marcaccini, chair of the grants committee. “This is a historic moment, our very first grant round. We had a number of great proposals from local organizations to consider. We selected five projects for this inaugural grant round. Each offers a unique benefit to our community. We will be conducting another grant round in March and encourage organizations serving the Eveleth-Gilbert community to apply.”

Recipients include:

  • Eveleth Gilbert Public Schools -- $1000 for an Early Literacy Program
  • Eveleth Gilbert Swim Boosters -- $500 for New Starting Blocks
  • Generation W -- $500 for the Youth Newspaper Collaboration
  • Iron Trail Public Access TV -- $500 for reopening the Eveleth/Gilbert studio
  • US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum -- $500 for their Wall of Fame expansion

“We first envisioned this community endowment in 2008,” states Ryan Turner, chair of the advisory board. “We are grateful for the gifts and pledges of support from the community. Their generosity helped us to secure major gifts this year from the IRRRB and Cliffs Natural Resources through their Cliffs Foundation.”

The Eveleth Area Community Foundation Fund was created in 2008 to enhance and improve the quality of life of the citizens in the Eveleth area and to encourage others to do the same. Since that time, the Eveleth Area Community Foundation family of funds has grown to over $200,000.00 in permanently endowed assets.
