Scholarship Application ProcessReview the appropriate scholarship grid below. These grids show the main criteria for each scholarship. Some have special academic criteria (top 25%, 2.5 or greater GPA); some have financial need requirements; others have requirements about where you will study or what you will major in. In addition, check out each fund under the Scholarship Funds page of the website.
Consider your situation and what/where you want to study. Narrow down the list of scholarships you will apply for. Don’t apply for awards you’re obviously unqualified for, but don’t take yourself out of the running for borderline scholarships either - just because you’re undecided. A $2K or $4K scholarship can help you to make up your mind about a school. Go to the Application and Forms page and download the appropriate application(s). Read over the questions and start to think about your answers. Name and address don’t take much thought, but think about the short answer and essay questions. This is where you will either impress or bore the selection committee. Think about who you would like to write recommendations for you. Ask them NOW. Give them the DSACF website URL and tell them the recommendation form is there for them to complete. Make sure they know the January 15th deadline. DO THIS SOON! Read over the other pages of the DSACF website. If you are going to apply for financial need-based scholarships, start thinking about the FAFSA application. The deadline for submission to our office is March 1, 2012. You need data from your 2011 taxes to do it correctly, but let your parents know this is coming up and urge them to be on top of it too. This process can take 2 or 3 weeks so start early! Start writing answers for the long answer and essay questions. Make sure they fit in the space allowed and make sure they have correct grammar and spelling. Have a parent or teacher read them over. Complete the form. Print it out, confirm again that everything looks right and all mistakes are corrected. Save the application document with your name and ‘application’ as the document’s name. Gather together any other supplemental documents – your photo, recommendations (can be sent in directly from the recommender), additional essays – and scan if possible. Create an email with your name & “Application” in the Subject: line and send to scholarships @ dsacommunityfoundaton.com (Remove spaces). Attach the saved PDF application form and any supplemental documents. Send. Try to get everything to our office early. The deadline is January 15, 2012, but earlier is better. Keep working on your taxes and other financial aid paperwork and get your FAFSA Student Aid Report to our office by March 1, 2012. You can submit your SAR by email in the same manner described above. |
